Identity

A person’s sense of self constitutes their identity. Identity can also apply to the group consciousness of communities, nations or cultures. If individuals identify with other individuals who they share interests or characteristics with, it is called “collective identity” or “national identity”. Identity answers the question of who a person or group is, what their individual characteristics are or how they are similar or different from other people or groups. Identity is a social construct: A person’s identity is constructed through their environment, influences and relationships as well as their self-perception.
