Guest worker camp

The accommodation of the labour migrants in Germany in the 1960s and 1970s, called “guest workers”, were referred to as “guest worker camps” or dormitories. The accommodations provided by the labour migrants’ employers were often barracks built on the grounds of former “camps” for refugees or forced labourers. The facilities were criticised for their poor conditions of overcrowded rooms, inadequate sanitary and cooking facilities and general lack of privacy.
