Groups that are perceived to have a collective identity and are separate from other groups due to their shared characteristics such as history, descent, language, religion or culture are referred to as Ethnicity or ethnic group. However, ethnic groups are socially constructed and therefore fluid subjected to change. While people can identify with an ethnic group themselves, the membership of an ethnic group can also be ascribed to them.
