Migration history

The term “person with a migration history” describes people who migrated to Germany themselves or whose family has ancestors who migrated to Germany. The term is independent from the official term “person with a migration background” defined by the Federal Statistical Office and goes beyond that meaning. For example, the term could include Germans whose grandparents or great-grandparents migrated to Germany and whose parents were born as German citizens. The term “person with migration experience”, however, only applies to people who migrated themselves.
