While there is no standard definition of the term, a migrant is generally defined as a person who has relocated their life from one place to another. If people talk about migration, they usually mean the crossing of borders, and therefore international migration. However, people can also migrate within the borders of a national state. Oftentimes people are being described as migrants although they do not consider themselves to be migrants. It is therefore important to differentiate if a person assigns a migrant identity to themselves or if has been assigned to them from the outside.
